About Marilyn Cornwell
I am a gardener and photographer living in the heart of wine country in the Niagara region. Niagara is a peninsula - with Niagara Falls on the east, Lake Erie on the south and Lake Ontario on the north. There's a lot to experience here for the gardener and photographer.
I like to explorer of all things visual. Two realms capture most of my attention. These are the magic and wonder of plants and gardens in the natural world and the everyday decays in the urban environment.
In the natural world, it is the Marvelling the Mushroom Series that draws attention to the macro landscapes and abstract images out of seemingly mundane things.
In the Garden Explorations Series, I capture the atmosphere, spirit, and beauty of a garden to preserve garden memories. I seek out the essence of plants and gardens throughout the seasons looking to express the details, colour, texture, pattern, rhythm and form.
My newest adventure is the Urban Extractions Series, I find abstract images in ordinary places that people ignore and pass by each day. These are dumpsters with blisters from chemicals and rust, underpaintings and overpaintings of graffiti and street signs, peeling paint in commercial and suburban settings, and anything rusty, crusty and falling to pieces.
Come see me regularly at my Blogs:
I've been speaking to horticultural societies and garden clubs since 2009, when I started my second career in Photography. With an IT and management consulting career of more than 30 years, I am comfortable with public speaking and enjoy it. I bring enthusiasm and energy to well-organized presentations that have interesting themes and lots of quality pictures. Mind you, I don't jump up on the stage like Paul Zammit.
